Starting New

Honestly, I have thought about having a blog for a while. I love to write, and I give 10/10 advice with a lot of tough choices for people, those two things plus my amazing sense of humor birthed this bad boy. I am not sure if this will take off or not, but I’m not doing it for recognition, I’m doing it for me. I am making a very public diary of sorts. I am also doing it in hopes that someone somewhere will seek guidance upon a tough situation, find my blog, and get the advice that will make their whole life so much easier. Future me: this was the second best idea we have ever had. (the first was swiping right on Stephen).

Things I Learned in 4 Years

When referring to 4 years, I mean college of course. I learned a lot of material, a lot about myself, and a lot about the other people in the world. So, since it is my last year in 2020, I thought I’d talk about 20 things that I learned.

  1. It is not the end of the world when you get a bad grade. College is hard and definitely not like high school.
  2. Find healthy study habits. This will increase your chances of getting better grades.
  3. Changing your major is totally normal. Almost everyone finishes college doing something different than when they started.
  4. Your mental health is one of the most valuable things, take care of it.
  5. Living on campus is a great learning experience. Universities need to address the state of their dorms and how “livable” they actually are.
  6. You will make temporary friends. It happens to everyone and it is completely normal.
  7. Be involved, but not too involved. Spreading yourself thin will stress you out and will leave you not wanting to be involved in anything.
  8. Call your parents, or at least your mom at least a few times a week. She misses you and you’ll regret not talking to her later in life.
  9. Use a planner system of your choosing. Write down the dates as soon as you know them. It is solely your responsibility to keep up with your homework.
  10. Meal plans are not all that. When you can move out of campus housing, or get a campus apartment make your own food. It will be cheaper and so much better.
  11. Make and use your linkedin profile. Employers want someone who is active on that for the right reasons. I am still learning how to use it properly.
  12. Don’t bring a lot of books to college, you won’t read them. They’ll take up space and you’ll just have to lug them back home. Instead, set up a goal for how many books you’ll read and only take what you need.
  13. Late night walks are really good for clearing your head.
  14. Be safe when going out and watch out for your friends, or even strangers that might be in uncomfortable situations.
  15. There are so many resources to use for studying on campus. Be active in looking for them, because a lot of them will be somewhat hidden.
  16. Don’t wait until the last minute to talk to your advisors. They’re there to help you, so when you feel like you could use them, use them.
  17. Take social media breaks when you need them. It is healthy for you to not live on social media. Set up scheduled times when you should be off of social media. You can read, hang with friends, or even do homework during this time.
  18. When in college, you’ll most likely enter relationships. It is important to not lose yourself in them. Find the balance between everything and everyone (it is hard, but it is possible). Make sure your relationships are healthy, and not one-sided.
  19. Oh boy, second to last….network!!!! Even if your major doesn’t have co-op, network with people who are in the same field as you. Job hunting is all about who you know!
  20. The last thing I learned from my 4 years at college and something I am still learning is to not care what people think of you. There will be days where you feel down because someone put you down. Be yourself, always. Be happy and ignore the negativity.

New Year, But Probably Same Me

My new year’s resolution was to work on my blog more. Everyone always says I should write a book with the amount of shit I’ve been through in my short 22 1/2 years on this damn planet. This seems the path of least resistance. So, we are 12 days in and here we are, sticking to my resolution. Hopefully it’s realistic…more than going to the gym, which I hate. I’d only go if Stephen went and I actually can go in the mornings (my internship starts at 8 AM). I really don’t remember the last time I blogged, so here is a bit of an update.

I decided to graduate in the Spring instead of the Fall, we are on the 4 month count down! Poland and Germany were amazing. I learned so much from that trip about myself, the world, and from history. I also made some really great friends! I have an internship with Kenton County in their GIS department. I work on easements, right-of-ways, and whatever else they have me do on a day-to-day basis. I absolutely love working there and for Trisha.

Overall, I am so happy with my life right now. I am a little anxious with all of the things that need to be done for school. The podcast transcriptions and scripts need to get done. I also need to meet up with advisors and talk about graduation before I actually apply for graduation. I’m also going to Denver for a week in April for AAG again! I am going to have a super busy semester, but I am so ready for it!

The Last Time…

There are always those relationships where one of the people will say “I promise I’ll change” after they fuck up somehow…This is one of those relationships. I love to blog, I do. I also really want to dedicate time to it, and I have a list of excuses I could use to tell myself and you, the reader, that I will get better. I just don’t know if my blog dreams will come true, ya feel? I think I will keep this up and post when I feel inspired to. I may also create a scheduled weekly posting time to help me stay with it. Who knows…I do know that this isn’t a break up. Maybe it is just a break until i can figure out my schedule. I love you bby.

Oops…I did it again?

Wow I am a real piece of shit for not remembering to keep up with this. I swear I will try harder. I know excuses won’t cut it, but I have been super busy with prepping for Poland and Germany. I am working on a lot of stuff for that course because I am the project manager who oversees a lot of groups. I also got a new job! Woot woot! I start that Monday, and I am pretty fucking stoked. So yeah, busy. I also have my desk job that makes me want to yeet myself off of Crosley most days ( Imeanwhatsnew). ANYWAYS I will try not to forget and/or get lazy again. I hope I draw more people in, because I plan on blogging about the trip so stick around! *Finger guns*

P.S. I leave in 14 days to one of my dream countries, and as the time gets closer I feel like I want to vomit. Everywhere. For several minutes. Okay, that’s disgusting. No needed that, I am sorry. I am just nervous/excited to be doing this and I have anxiety that I just don’t deserve this great opportunity. Oh well *shrugs*

School Stress

I stress over lots of things, it is just how I function honestly. I came out of the womb stressed, okay? I am currently sitting in a Starbucks fighting a panic moment because the feeling of failure is looming over my head. I have one year left for school. What if I wasted my time getting a degree that is going to leave me mega poor? I know I shouldn’t think like this, but It’s not like I can just turn it off. I want to go back to therapy for it, but I just don’t want them to look at me like “-_-…why the fuck are you here? because you’re a chicken shit?” I mean I know they won’t actually say those things…THEY THINK THEM THOUGH. I am totally rambling, but that is okie dokie. I am also bumping Higher Love by KYGO and Whitney Houston and this shit does something for my soul. I think this song is what is going to get me through all of these jitters.

10 Things About Me

I was going to be quirky and title this “10 Things I Love About Me”, but I’m not that cringe. Anyways, here are 10 things that I think best give someone a window in to see what makes me…me!

  1. I am OBSESSED with iced coffee. Ugh even typing this makes me want one. The 3 main stops of my addiction are Starbucks (the main bitch), Dunkin’ (the side hoe), and Tim Horton’s (the one who is just there). Generally, I love so many drinks from Starbucks (sponsor me pls), but I do drink their iced coffee 7/10 times. I love me some coffee damn it.
  2. I am a 4th year senior at the UC (you can guess what school). I major in Geography with a focus of human geography. I also have two minors: History and Political Science, and a certificate in GIS that I am currently working on. #humblebrag (I am planning on a longer post about my major/school life)
  3. I love watching trash TV. I am a trash human being though, so what do you expect? I usually watch it to keep me productive or while I am in bed and Stephen is on the computer. Anything from the Bachelor to random Youtube videos-I can’t get enough of that shit.
  4. This one is one of my deeper secrets…I’d straight up sell my soul to bring young Whitney Houston back to this earth. I love that woman so much. I cannot wait to own one of her albums on vinyl. That shit will hit differently. She’s just so amazing and wholesome. That vocal range? No one could never!!
  5. I love, love, love Skyline and cheese. Despite me being lactose intolerant, I push through the pain. There is nothing like some fries, Skyline, and cheese. That shit hits!
  6. I am going to dedicate this one to my family. I am the only girl…I have 6 brothers. S I X! What are the fucking odds in that shit?! Anyways, I love them all so much. I am a total momma’s girl too. I would whoop someone’s ass for my mom. Periodt. For my dad, I definitely have some of his sense of humor (AKA corny dad jokes).
  7. There is nothing like a new notebook or new pack of colored pens that I definitely didn’t need, but totally wanted. I would say, without hesitation, that this could also qualify as an addiction for me. My first love is iced coffee, but my second is stationary.
  8. Oh geez, it is getting harder to remember or think of things that I like or do! Oh! Books! Oh man if I could own Belle’s library from Beauty and the Beast, I would never leave. I love reading a book that just absorbs me. Feeling what the characters feel, what they’re thinking, imagining the scenery-something that a movie will do.
  9. This one will be short. I really fucking love red lipstick. That is my iconic color. That’s all there is to this one really.
  10. Lastly, this one is going to be sappy. I love someone who holds the whole world for me. I would trade all of the above for an eternity with him in a heartbeat. Stephen, when you read this- I love you more than yesterday, less than tomorrow, but the most right now.

I forgot…

So I kind of forgot that I had this bad boy. I was really focused on finishing my summer job, transitioning into my school year job, and deciding on postponing my graduation until May that way I can work on getting my GIS Certificate. A lot happened in a few short weeks that I really didn’t see coming. Lets be honest though, do we ever see that shit coming? I could make a list a mile long of why I don’t blog, but in all honesty I am just worried that I am not good at this. Does anyone care? Is anyone reading this? No? Didn’t think so.

Any who! School starts soon and I am so fucking pumped! I cannot wait! This semester is going to be one of the best!!! I get to go on my dream travel abroad trip to Germany and Poland with one of the my close friends. If he acts up though, I will have to through him off the plane. I am sure it is going to be the best trip ever! The only sad part is that Stephen can’t come, but I know he will be waiting for me when I get back from all of the traveling! Ugh I can’t wait! I still have a bit to do before the trip, but its going to be so great! I am also excited to be completing my capstone this semester (since a prof almost screwed me over, but that’s a story for another time)! My capstone is about Germany as well, but mainly focusing on the geographic war tactics that Adolf Hitler used. It’s going to be challenging, but I am totally prepared for this.

I will try to update as much as possible with all of the events, trips, and bullshit I encounter. But I think this year will be one for the books!

“Not Referred”

Those two words are going to start haunting me if my job hunting continues on the path that it is going. In my head I keep repeating the mantra “Just keep trying, don’t give up” over and over again. I suppose it has done it’s job, because I haven’t given up just yet. I still have a semester of college left, so I am ahead of the game so to speak. I feel like I am just trying to prevent post-graduation depression (it is real, google it). I’m fine though, because I do have support from lots of people and they all get excited for me whenever I apply for a job. They also get sad when I am “not referred” for the job. This is all just part of the adult process. The first step is not knowing what the fuck I am doing half the time. You stay in step one until you’re probably 45-50 years old. The first step lasts so long, it becomes a state of mind. The second step is seemingly “waste” money on a college degree for a job that you’ll need a master’s for, but you’ll need money to get your master’s, so you need a job…BASICALLY IT IS AN ENDLESS CYCLE OF NEEDING A JOB. It’s fine. It builds character. Anyways, I guess the advice for this one, as corny as it sounds, is don’t give up on anything you are pursuing. Follow through and you’ll be more than successful on the other side.
